A Response from Kelly Dining

By Angela Agnello and Lisa Ospitale

Dear Editor,
Campus Dining Services has read your Editorial in the Monday March 11, 2002issue of the Statesman. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention;please feel free to contact us with any other comments.

We are concerned that you are unhappy with the brunch at the Kelly Dining Centerand wish to resolve each of the items mentioned to your satisfaction.

With regard to the discrepancy of the price of brunch… It is true that brunchcosts $6.45 when purchased using your meal plan. Meal plans are tax-exempt andtherefore sales tax is not included in the $6.45. If you wish to pay cash forbrunch, the price is $7.00 because it included 55 cents for sales tax.

With regard to the inconsistency of the number of pizza slices in a pie ofpizza during brunch… At any time other then brunch, a Portabella Pizza issliced into six slices, but during brunch it is sliced into twelve in orderto try to save in food waste. It has been researched that students who attendan all you can eat buffet will take more then they can consume. A customer canrequest as many slices as they would like.

With regard to self service of pizza… Our pizza stations are not self servicedue to the fact that the pizza platters are very hot. Due to the temperatureof the tray, there is the possibility that an individual could burn him/herselffrom the heat and in order to protect our customers we have trained staff servingthe pizza.

With regard to the issue of the size of the beverage cups… After Spring BreakCampus Dining Services will be offering a 16 oz cup for Brunch.

With regard to the issue of taking food out of the dining location during brunch…For all meal periods, other than brunch, you pay for each food item you decideto purchase. At Brunch, you are charged a fixed price of $6.45 and are ableto eat as much as you care to in the dining center. The price is based on theaverage amount of food our student customers consume during this meal period.Campus Dining Services offers a fixed price ‘all you care to eat’style Brunch. In other words, at all other meal periods, you pay for each fooditem individually.

Campus Dining Services takes all of its customers’#146; comments seriouslyand wishes to respond to each and every one of them. In the future, if you haveany questions or concerns, please send them via our website at www.campusdining.orgor you can call Dawn Vallacci, Customer Advocate, directly at 632-9374, andshe will be happy to assist you in any way possible.
