A power outage affected H Quad, Mendelsohn Quad, the graduate chemistry building, the Student Union and Long Island State Veterans Home at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, according to police and fire marshals on the scene at H Quad.

The power came back to Benedict College at 9:26 a.m., and the cause of the power outage has not yet been identified, police said.

Julia Covell, a junior transfer student, said she was awake at the time of the outage.

“I just kind of noticed that the lights just flickered off and I unplugged all my things,” she said. “And then I just kind of switched the light on and off to see if it was just a fuse, but then I noticed my whole floor was out.”

Sophomore Cindy Lowe said she found out about the outage when she noticed her phone and laptop were not charging.

“And then I turned the light on and it didn’t go on,” she said. “And then I opened the door and it was dark.”
