The Stony Brook Seawolves fell to the La Salle Explorers last Saturday, scoring 57 points to La Salle’s 65 underneath the bright dome of the Madison Square Garden. The game proceeded the match between St. John’s University and Fordham University. Both games comprised the Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival event for 2013.
The Seawolves started strong in the first half, maintaining its nine-point lead over the Explorers for the last five minutes. But a strong response by the Explorers pulled victory away from the Seawolves ten minutes into the second half.
“We moved the ball well and played good defense in the first half,” Head Coach Steve Pikiell said. “They came out and got us in the first four minutes of the second half. They dictated to us in those first four minutes of the second half.”
It was the Seawolves’ second time playing in the “World’s Most Famous Arena” as a Division I team and its fifth overall.
“It came down to a couple of plays down the stretch. We didn’t make them and they did,” Pikiell said.
