Stony Brook freshman and member of the cross country team, Noah Farrelly passed away after being struck by a car on campus earlier this week.

Farrelly’s death was confirmed in an email sent from the dean of student’s office on Thursday evening.

“This is a devastating loss to all, especially Noah’s family, his fellow athletes, coaches and friends,” Richard Gatteau, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, wrote in the email. “On behalf of Stony Brook University, I express heartfelt condolences to all who knew and cared for Noah.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started for the family of Farrelly, who was in critical condition after being struck by a car on campus this Tuesday.

According to the fundraiser’s description, “He was rushed to a hospital, but after hours of fighting, fighting for his life, he was declared legally deceased by the doctors.”

The fundraiser for Farrelly exceeded its $10,000 goal just 19 hours after it was posted.

Farrelly was out jogging when he was struck by a 2018 Dodge Caravan at around 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, according to Suffolk County Police.

He was crossing against the light at the intersection of Health Sciences Drive and southbound Nicolls Road when he was hit.
