Stony Brook running back Stacey Bedell was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 14 for his efforts in Saturday’s game against Central Connecticut State at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Bedell, a junior, ran 22 times for 133 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in the Seawolves’ 38-9 victory. This performance comes after a 2014 season in which he rushed for 1,070 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games. One game into this season, and Bedell still looks to be every bit the running back that carried Stony Brook’s offense in 2014.
This is the first time in Bedell’s career that he has been named CAA Player of the Week. He was named to the All-CAA Second Team last season and won the 2011 Hansen Award, given to Suffolk County’s best high school football player, when he played at William Floyd High School in Brookhaven, New York.
