On April 12, Stony Brook running back Marcus Coker suffered a broken left leg in a motorcycle accident, according to details from a story released last night by Newsday’s Greg Logan.
The report went on to say that head coach Chuck Priore expects Coker to make a full recovery, and be ready when preseason practice begins on Aug. 1.
The Stony Brook Athletics Department had no comment on the situation at this time, but did confirm that Coker should be available to play when the preseason begins.
Coach Priore told Logan that the running back suffered abrasions on the left side of his body to his shoulder, forearm, thigh and knee. The break in Coker’s leg was to his fibula.
The accident occurred while Coker was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Route 347 Nesconset Highway.
After rushing for 1,018 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior year, there were high expectations set for the Iowa transfer entering the 2014 season. But Coker suffered a season-ending abdominal injury, after playing in the team’s first two games.
As a result of missing the majority of his senior year at Stony Brook, Coker was granted another year of eligibility.
The Stony Brook football team will begin their season on Aug. 28, at home against Bryant University.
