A cold front is approaching the Stony Brook area late Thursday evening and continuing into Friday, Feb. 3 with temperatures reaching as low as five degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to drop even further Friday evening and Saturday morning.
“Please monitor weather alerts and stay indoors as much as possible during this time,” Lawrence M. Zacarese, vice president for enterprise risk management and chief security officer, said in a campus email on Feb. 2. “If outside, layer clothing (leaving no exposed skin) as frostbite can occur in 15 minutes or less with wind chills this low.”
In the event of an emergency, contact the University Police Department at 631-632-3333 or dial 333 from a campus phone. Students are encouraged to utilize SB Guardian and remain in contact with friends and family.
For residents on campus, ensure that all building windows and doors are closed to prevent pipes from freezing. If an urgent issue arises regarding any facilities in the building, contact the appropriate offices.
Be sure to check SB Alert and email for future advisories from the Office of Emergency Management.
