Stony Brook University has canceled all classes and events on Tuesday, Feb. 2 in response to snowfall caused by Monday’s nor’easter, according to an emergency message sent around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The cancelation applies to classes and events both in-person and online. Further updates can be found at the Office of Emergency Management’s Twitter account. Updated hours for university dining are posted on the university’s website.
Originally, the university canceled all classes and events before 1 p.m. in an emergency message sent around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, before issuing the updated cancelation the next morning.
The cancelation applies to all Stony Brook University campuses and schools. Staff who are working remotely should continue to do so throughout the delay. Essential employees are expected to operate according to their schedules. The university hospital and Long Island State Veterans home will remain open and operate on schedule.
The message noted that students with clinical obligations should still attend rotations or contact clinical coordinators with any concerns.
The nor’easter has heavily impacted the downstate region and put 44 counties in a state of emergency.
Appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations in state run points of distribution in the downstate region, which includes Stony Brook University, are canceled throughout the day, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office. All campus COVID-19 testing sites, including the one in South P lot, will be closed for the day.
