The Stony Brook Men’s Baseball team hit a bump in the road on Tuesday, losing their first home game of the season against Central Connecticut State University 4-1, snapping a 15-game home winning streak.

The Seawolves’ bats were unable to generate much of anything at the plate, and as a result their losing streak has now reached three games, bringing the Seawolves’ record to 22-14 on the season. Stony Brook stands with an 8-3 America East record, good for second in the conference.

The Seawolves got off to a rocky start, with their starter Josh Barry getting knocked for two runs in the second inning, with a leadoff double quickly turning into a big inning.

Barry was pulled soon after, and Stony Brook put the next runs on the board in the fourth. After two outs, Connor Doyle, Johnny Caputo and Anthony Italiano hit three straight singles, and Josh Mason was hit by a pitch to drive in the run. The Seawolves were unable to do more damage, and it ended up being their only run of the game.

The Stony Brook bullpen held the one-run deficit until the seventh, when Nick Brass could not find any control, allowing two RBI walks.

Anthony Italiano was one of the few bright spots at the plate for the SBU. He was the only Seawolf to reach base twice, drawing the team’s only walk of the day, and flashing some plate discipline he had been lacking this year. No Seawolf had an extra base hit all day.

The Seawolves pitchers performed much better. Joseph Guercio pitched well in a rare appearance, throwing two shutout innings with a strikeout and two hits. Cameron Stone had yet another dominant outing, throwing 2.1 no hit innings with four strikeouts and a walk. He is sporting a 1.75 ERA on the year with a 1.11 WHIP.

The Seawolves will play a three-game series against Albany starting Saturday.
