The Stony Brook softball team redeemed itself in a 5-0 victory against Columbia after being shutout in the first game 1-0 in a doubleheader.

After losing to an RBI single by Columbia freshman Alyssa Rodia in the fourth inning in the first game, the Seawolves picked up the intensity in the second game to win convincingly. The Seawolves opened the first inning of the second game with three runs. Stony Brook sophomore Alexandra Pisciotta batted in three runs and juniors Shayla Giosia and Bria Green batted in one run each. Pisciotta connected for a hit three times and senior Olivia Mintun and Giosia both had two hits.

Stony Brook junior pitcher Allison Cukrov only allowed one hit to Columbia junior Alix Cook in the second game and only allowed three players to touch the bases.

In the first game, both pitchers were holding the opposing team off and the teams were at a stalemate until the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Columbia broke the game wide open with a run.

Columbia freshman Shelby Unger drove her second double of the day off the wall in left field, and advanced to third and scored after fellow freshman Rodia’s single.

Although the Seawolves were able to put runners on base in all of the last three innings, they were unable to score. Columbia freshman Tonia Wu held the Seawolves off en route to her first career save.

The Seawolves are set to face Hofstra at Stony Brook on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
