Stony Brook proved to be too much for Monmouth on Wednesday, as they were able to defeat the Hawks 13-0. It was the first ever shutout in the programs history.

The Seawolves defense was unstoppable, as they held the Hawks to just four shots, and one shot on goal. Senior goalie Frankie Caridi saved the only shot she faced, despite the rain.

Junior Michelle Rubino had seven points, four goals and three assists for Stony Brook.

Freshman Kristin Yevoli had a hat trick and a game-high four draw controls for the Seawolves.

Jessica Romano, Alyssa Fleming, Maegan Meritz and Jenna Agostino were able to stop the Hawks, who qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Despite the bad weather, Stony Brook was able able to score 13 goals, seven of which came from rookies. They took a 5-0 lead into the half, as they held Monmouth without a shot in the first half.

Yevoli scored with 27:30 left in the second half to increase the lead to 6-0. Rubino scored four minutes later from just outside the crease and she later assisted Amber Kupres’ shot to make it 8-0 Seawolves. Rubino’s third goal came on a free position to give the team a nine goal advantage. Alyssa Guido scored a few minutes later to bring the lead to double-digits.

Kupres and freshmen Dorrien Van Dyke and Guido both had two goals in the victory. One of the problems for the Hawks was turnovers, which they had 25 of in the game. Nine of those were caused by the Seawolves, with Kupres and Yevoli having two apiece.

Yevoli, Kupres and Fleming tied for a game-high with three ground balls each. The Seawolves outshot the Hawks 32-4. With the victory, the Seawolves improved to 4-0 all-time against Monmouth.

Guido scored her first goals in her first collegiate game.

The Seawolves will follow up this victory with a game against No. 15 Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Saturday.
