Sophomore Melissa Rigo is picking up from where she left off last season. She recorded three consecutive double-doubles and helped the Seawolves defeat Bryant and Princeton at the Bryant Invitational. She was named America East Player of the Week for the first time of her career because of the victory.
Rigo, a Long Island native, from East Northport, N.Y. averaged 3.33 kills and 3.67 digs per set, while hitting .358 during the Invitational. During the Seawolves sweep of Bryant, Rigo hit .542 and had five blocks.
She has had double-figure kills in six consecutive matches and double-doubles in five of the last six matches. She was the only player in the America East to rank in the top-10 in kills (second), hitting percentage (second) and digs (eighth).
Last season, she was a seven-time Rookie of the Week winner and was the only freshman on the first-team all-conference.
The Seawolves return to action Friday, Sept. 27 at UMBC.
