On Thursday, Feb. 10, the Stony Brook University campus had a taste of the MTV comedy rap battle show “Wild ‘n Out.”

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) brought in “Wild ‘n Out” cast members Conceited, Justina Valentine and Radio Big Mack as part of their recurring “Stony Brook Comedies” series. The event was completely sold out, reaching the max of 900 students attending the event.

Leading up to the show, USG promoted the opportunity for students to take part in an interactive game with the cast members by filling out a Google Form. Students who were chosen engaged with the three MTV members through various “Wild ‘n Out” improv games, including “Pick Up and Kill It,” “Family Reunion” and “Kick ‘Em Out The Classroom.” The games consisted of roasting each other as the student participants were split up into two teams: the Black Team under Conceited and the Red Team under Valentine.

During a once-in-a-lifetime experience, student participants were even allowed to roast Conceited and Valentine. Dezmen Jenkins-Sierra, a junior biology major, said that he was nervous when he roasted Valentine in a rap. “When you go after the queen, you’re dead,” he said. Valentine played along with it and roasted him back, which Jenkins-Sierra called an “honor.”

During the event, the student body crowd was more than pumped to have the “Wild ‘n Out” cast members brought to the campus. The energy in the Staller Center Theater was at an all time high as screams, laughter and singing erupted the room as the MTV members hyped the audience up.

An avid fan of “Wild ‘n Out,” senior respiratory care major Givenchy Ayisi-Boahene jokingly said that she “needed therapy” after being roasted in front of the 900 attendees at the USG comedy show. “Overall I had a really good time. It was really fun to see Conceited, Justina and all the people around here. It was all jokes and fun; I might cry a little bit but, you know, it was worth it.”

At one point Justine, Conceited and Radio Big Mack each pooled in their own money collectively to give more than $200 to a participant who twerked the best during what Valentine called the “Stony Brook Twerk Competition.” Conceited included Stony Brook humor by teasing at Island Soul, East Side Dining and Greeley Residence Hall within his raps.

This has been one of the higher turnout events as USG has begun to plan in-person events since the start of the pandemic.

“I was so excited. I’m just so happy that I had the opportunity to meet both Conceited and Justina and just have fun — that’s all that matters,” Jenkins-Sierra said.
