Stony Brook University class of 2021’s commencement ceremony will be held in-person at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in May.

The announcement was first posted on the university’s Youtube page on March 19 in a video featuring President Maurie McInnis. Ceremonies will be held over three separate days from May 19 to May 21. Each university college and school will have its own separate ceremony, with the College of Arts and Sciences hosting three separate ceremonies with different groups of majors. The dates and times of each ceremony are posted on the commencement website

No guest tickets are currently being issued, in accordance with the current New York state COVID-19 restrictions on venue capacities, according to the university’s commencement webpage. All the ceremonies will livestreamed and recorded.

“It may not look exactly the same as in the past, but I can’t tell you how happy I am at the thought of being able to see each and every one of you receive your degree, and to be able to celebrate right alongside you at an appropriate physical distance, of course,” McInnis said in the video.

According to an email sent by the university after the video was posted, attendees will need to comply with the university’s COVID-19 testing requirements in order to attend. The email also said that the ceremonies are subject to change based on New York state health directives up until the dates of the ceremonies.

New York state has been easing coronavirus restrictions over the past few months as infection rates decrease.
