The Stony Brook University Division of Student Affairs sent out an email on Jan. 13 detailing COVID-19 guidances on classes and campus life for the upcoming spring semester.
The email, sent by Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Rick Gatteau, includes links to several websites providing guidance for resident, commuter and remote students for the spring semester, which begins Feb 1. It also includes a notice that all resident and commuter students must test negative for COVID-19 prior to arriving on campus.
Along with obtaining a negative test result three days before arriving on campus, all resident students must also complete a self-screening 14 days prior and are required to self-quarantine the week before their arrival. Those from outside New York must complete the New York State Traveler Health Form.
Resident students from states non-adjacent to New York or from countries with level two restrictions or higher will be placed in on-campus quarantine housing for three days, with a test to be conducted by Student Health Services on day four. A negative test result is then required to move into assigned housing.
Commuter students must follow the same protocols as resident students, along with a mandated 3-day self-quarantine in off-campus housing for students coming from non-adjacent states and from countries with COVID level two or above.
All students are reminded to gather only in small groups, routinely wash their hands, use hand sanitizer and wear face masks in all indoor public spaces and outdoor spaces if they cannot maintain at least a six feet distance from others.
The information sites include links to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO), Student Health Services, the Recreation and Wellness Center and ReachOut SUNY, which provides information on remote learning and COVID-19 for SUNY students. It also provides information for accessing the New York State Office of Mental Health Crisis Text Line — text GOT5 to 741741 to speak with a representative.
Negative COVID-19 test results must be uploaded to Medicat, a records system provided by Student Health Services two days before arriving on campus. Resident and commuter students must submit self-screenings on the Campus Clear app daily.
