Throughout my time at Stony Brook, I’ve strived to achieve academic success and have enjoyed my experiences. However, one issue has continued to pester me each time I plan my class schedule in anticipation for the upcoming semester: course selection.

The university will throw out the Diversified Education Curriculum (D.E.C.) we have all grown accustomed to starting next fall and replace it with the new “Stony Brook Curriculum (SBC).”
To earn a degree from Stony Brook University, students need not only meet the requirements of his or her major but also those of the Diversified Education Curriculum, the purpose of which is to provide students with a general, well-rounded education to complement the narrower and more specialized focus of majors and minors offered. But for those new SBU students beginning their college career in fall 2014, the system is different.
