What previous experience do you have?
I am an incumbent Senator. I have been actively involved in USG for two years now. During my first year of the Senate, I was very actively involved and I dedicated a lot of time in the Budget Committee. I was an active part of the Budget Committee and played an active role in the Budget Hearings and Deliberations Process. I was also actively involved in the Ad-hoc committee to examine the proposed tuition increases and helped the committee distribute the student surveys and submit a final report to the Chancellor. This year, I am actively involved in the Academic Affairs Committee discussing all issues related to the Academic Affairs. I am and have always been very actively involved on Campus. in addition to USG, I am doing research, I am in the Pep band, I volunteer at the Stony Brook Hospital, I am actively involved in UNICEF, I am part of the University Senate, and I am an active member of Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre-med honor society), Golden Key Honor Society, and I recently became a provisional member of Sigma beta Honor Society. So as you can see, I clearly have alot of experience and I am very actively involved on campus and in my community.
What skills can you bring to the position?
As I clearly mentioned, I am actively involved on campus. I have been in USG for two consecutive years and have a tremendous amount of experience. I strongly feel that I am fit for this position because I have the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the tasks required for this position. For example, I know the USG constitution, and all the other major bodies of legislation inside and out (ie. Robert’s rules of order). As a former member of the budget committee, I am familiar with all aspects of the Budget Process including the budget hearings, deliberations, etc. As I mentioned before I am also very actively involved outside of USG as well. Therefore I feel that am a very strong candidate for this position because I know what I have to do and how things needs to be done.
What about USG do you think is good and what could be made better?
There are alot of good things about USG. USG cares about its undergraduate students. In fact, they have an entire PASS tutoring program made available to the students. They also have different offices and departments to help the student with special issues. As a member of the Senate, I know that the Senate tries its best to help the undergraduate students by enacting legislation/resolutions that are geared to help them or to represent the students’ opinions. Each member of the Senate are also a part of a standing committee each designed to help the students with a certain issue. For example, the Budget Committee (which I was a part of) deals with issues relating to Budget to the clubs and organizations. Also, there are many USG events that help encourage students to be more actively involved. I am very glad and fortunate to be part of such a wonderful organization.
What are your plans if you get elected?
If reelected, I will do even better. I will keep improving and keep doing what I do. I will stay actively involved in the Senate meetings, be available in my office hours, be an active member of my committee and be actively involved in the USG events. Basically, I simply will keep doing what I do. In my opinion, Stony Brook is really a wonderful school and it is the all of the students and faculty that makes it so wonderful. But I believe that the school can be even better in the sense that it has the potential to improve and become even better. I will do my best to contribute.
