The Stony Brook men’s soccer team drew even in their match against the Lafayette Leopards on Tuesday, finishing with a final score of 0-0 after two overtime periods. The draw marks the second for each school this season.

Like the score, match stats for both teams were even across the board. The Seawolves’ 12 shots were matched by the Leopards’ 13, with three of the Seawolves going on goal first before the Leopards answered back with five shots on goal starting in the 34th minute. Despite the offensives, Seawolves sophomore goalie Yamil Montenegro and Leopards goalie Jack Cisneros posted shutouts, marking Montenegro’s first of his career.

“Tonight I feel a little dissatisfied leaving with a tie,” head coach Ryan Anatol said in a postgame press release. “I thought we deserved more. Our guys carried the game for large periods and created some really good chances. But we also defended well when we needed to.”

Now at 3-8-2, the Seawolves enter conference-only play for the remainder of the season. Having just lost to Hartford last week and going down 0-3 in conference games so far, Anatol stressed the improvement he has seen — and hopes to see — in preparation for the next game.

“This group continues to show up and fight for each other and I am looking forward to now having a few days of preparation and getting back onto the field this Saturday,” Anatol said.

The Seawolves return to Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. for a matchup against the Binghamton Bearcats.
