The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team defeated conference-rival Albany on Friday, April 26 by a score of 12-10 after weather delayed the final quarter of play by two hours.

The Seawolves offense ran through juniors Tom Haun and Chris Pickel Jr., as the attacker/midfielder combo had four and three goals respectively. Freshman midfielder Layton Harrell turned in another solid outing with two goals and junior attacker Connor Grippe, senior midfielder Owen Daly and sophomore midfielder Mike McCannell all contributed a goal each.

“It was a great win to get the regular season championship against a great program like UAlbany,” head coach Jim Nagle said in a press release. “They’ve gotten the best of us in this rivalry game for quite some time, so I’m glad we could set the table back to even. It was a great accomplishment for our guys and they’ll enjoy it tonight but they’ve got to turn the page and continue to get better.”

The win marks the Seawolves’ second consecutive season with at least a partial claim to the top seed in the conference and their first outright #1 seed since 2012. This victory comes against a Great Danes team that Stony Brook is 13-22 against all time and previously lost against last year by a score of 13-7.

With the Seawolves now the secured top seed, all of Stony Brook’s playoff games will be played at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Their quest for the America East Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament will begin on Thursday against UMBC, who beat Hartford 11-9 on Saturday, April 27.
