Stony Brook University student, Michael McLaughlin, was “located and is safe,” according to an email and text sent by Campus Safety on Dec. 26.
The 20-year-old was reported missing on Dec. 13, according to New York State’s Missing Person Clearing House. It was believed that he crossed the state line into New Jersey early that day, driving a dark gray 2008 Subaru Impreza.
Michelle Melfi, president of the Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps (SBVAC), of which McLaughlin is a member, previously told The Statesman that his departure was unexpected.
“We would like to thank the entire campus community for the concern, support and efforts made to help our department in our search,” Robert Lenahan, chief of police and vice president of campus safety, said.
It’s been requested that McLaughlin’s privacy is respected at this time.
