After switching store operators from Barnes and Nobles to the Follett Corporation, Shop Red West has unveiled a new store layout change in time for the Fall 2018 semester.
“It needed to be updated. It was becoming outdated and students deserve a beautiful store,” Faculty Student Association Director of Marketing and Communications Angela Agnello, said.
Over the summer, Shop Red West underwent renovations to add several new features to the store, including an Apple Tech Center set to open later in the fall semester. The center will give students an educational discount on all Apple products. An Apple-certified technician will also be available to help with all tech problems, from Macbooks to Apple Watches.
In addition to the Apple Tech Center, Shop Red West now has fitting rooms for students to try on apparel before purchase. All fitting rooms are wheelchair accessible to accommodate students with disabilities.
Apparel brand choices have also broadened to include more options such as Nike, Under Armour and Vera Bradley.
The online Shop Red West store expands the variety of clothing available for purchase, including clothing customized for dogs.
“It’s very easy to work in,” Shop Red West employee Latrisse Jackson said.
Meanwhile, some students are still getting used to the changes.
“It seems like they change it every few semesters,” senior biology major Peter Diaz said. “You have to relearn it every time. It’s kind of inconvenient but after I go a few times it doesn’t make a difference.”
Junior theatre arts major Eva Scapaticci echoed his sentiments. “I wish I was a freshman so then this wouldn’t be a relearning experience. I would be learning it as I go, but I’m not and it sucks,” she said.
On top of the changes to Shop Red West, the Seawolves MarketPlace in the Student Activities Center is undergoing renovations to be turned into a Dunkin Donuts & Baskin Robbins, set to open in Spring 2019.
