With the playoffs on the horizon, Stony Brook Women’s Lacrosse returned to Long Island and dominated Long Island rival Hofstra in a 19-4 win.
No. 4 Stony Brook had gone up 10-0 on the Pride 12 minutes into the first half. It was not until the seventeenth minute of the second half that the Pride scored their first goal, narrowing the Seawolves’ lead to 17-1.
Junior attacker Kylie Ohlmiller contributed six goals and four assists as she continued to make steady progress towards the all-time NCAA single-season points record. She is 26 points short of the 148 points logged by University of Maryland’s Jen Adams in 2001.
With its tenth straight win, Stony Brook improved its record to 15-1 and came on the same day that nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, college lacrosse’s top honor, were announced. Ohlmiller and senior midfielder Dorrien Van Dyke were included on the list of 25 nominees. On May 11, the Tewaaraton Foundation will narrow the list down to five finalists.
Van Dyke recorded a goal and an assist in the matchup against Hofstra. The goal, which came six minutes into the second half, moved the senior up to third in career points in Stony Brook Women’s Lacrosse history. Her 247 points put her behind current teammates Ohlmiller (299) and senior attacker Courtney Murphy (276). If Ohlmiller gets to 300, she will be the only player in America East history to have done so.
Ohlmiller’s younger sister, freshman attacker Taryn Ohlmiller, added eight points. Her 75 points are good for second most in the nation among freshmen. Hofstra freshman midfielder Alyssa Parrella leads the nation with 76, but she was held scoreless by Stony Brook in the Pride’s final game of the season. Hofstra finished the season with an 8-8 record.
Junior midfielder Samantha DiSalvo continued her late-season renaissance with four goals. Sophomore midfielder Keri McCarthy and freshman midfielder Ally Kennedy each added three points apiece.
Two days after collecting her sixth Intercollegiate College Women’s Lacrosse Association Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, sophomore goalie Anna Tesoriero notched eight saves and held Hofstra scoreless for the first 46 minutes.
Senior midfielder Becky Conto and senior attacker Morgan Knox were the only scorers for Hofstra. They each had two goals late in the second half.
