Women’s basketball picked 4th in preseason poll; Jeter preseason all-conference

HARTFORD, Conn.–The Stony Brook women’s basketball team was picked to finish in fourth place in the league and senior forward Kirsten Jeter was named a preseason all-conference selection by the coaches’ poll unveiled at the America East basketball tip-off luncheon in Hartford on Thursday.

“It doesn’t mean a lot to me, to be honest,” Seawolves head coach Michele Cherry said, noting that other coaches in the league don’t necessarily know what players a team is bringing in. With three new coaches in the league, Cherry said, it doesn’t make sense to put too much stock in the polls.

Jeter, who was a second-team all-conference selection last season, scored 14.4 ppg last year. She is the league’s active scoring leader with 1,081 points. Last season, Jeter also recorded 8.2 rebounds and 2.25 steals per game, and was second on the team with 57 assists.

Boston University was the unanimous favorite, earning all eight possible first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Hartford received the Boston coach’s vote.
