Former Stony Brook standout Muhammad El-Amin has signed a deal to play professional basketball in Hungary, according to a press release by Seawolves athletics.
El-Amin, an AP Honorable Mention All-American last season, will compete in the Hungary-A Division for the PVSK Pannonpower Pecs. The basketball league plays a 26-game season from October until April, followed by playoffs. Last season, PVSK Pannonpower Pecs finished in 11th out of 14 teams, posting a 9-17 record.
El-Amin finished just shy of 1,000 points in his two-year Stony Brook career, scoring 971. In his senior year alone, he score 517 points, setting a Stony Brook Division-I record.
He was named the 2010 America East Player of the Year, the first Seawolf to ever be afforded that honor, after scoring 19.1 ppg in conference play.
El-Amin led Stony Brook to its first-ever postseason berth, as a regular season America East championship left the Seawolves with an automatic bid to the NIT. Stony Brook fell to Illinois in the first round, 76-66.
Stony Brook’s 2010/11 season opens on Nov. 12 at the University of Connecticut.
