Stony Brook Volleyball’s senior outside hitter Kathy Fletcher took home America East Player of the Week honors on Monday for her performance in a pair of matches over the weekend.

Fletcher had 44 kills combined over two matches against Binghamton and Albany. This added to her lead in kills among all student-athletes in the America East Conference as her 261 kills separate her by 29 from anyone else in the conference.

Fletcher also posted high hitting percentages of .424 and .357 in each respective match. She recorded 23 total digs over the two matches to add to the effort.

By most statistical measures, she has been one of Stony Brook’s brightest stars on the court this season.

The senior has also catapulted Stony Brook into the conference lead for kills by a significant margin. The Seawolves have 926 as a team, 77 more than second-placed UMBC.

Stony Brook is off to one of its best conference play starts in program history. The team won its first three conference matches before losing dramatically in the fifth set yesterday to Albany. This marked the first time the Seawolves began the conference schedule 3-0 since moving to the America East in 2001.

These wins all came in dominating fashion. Stony Brook won four consecutive matches in three sets, which was the longest such streak in program history. As of right now, it looks like the Seawolves will be in the mix for their first America East title.

With a 3-1 record, Stony Brook is 1.5 games behind New Hampshire for the conference lead.  The Seawolves will take the court next on Friday when they play on the road against Hartford.
