Stony Brook Football defensive lineman Victor Ochi was named Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against New Hampshire on Saturday, the conference announced on Monday.
“He plays as fast on every play as anybody I’ve ever seen on the playing field or played against,” head coach Chuck Priore said during the conference’s weekly press conference.
Ochi, a senior, recorded 11 tackles and 3.5 sacks on Saturday, including three sacks in the first half. His performance was a pivotal part of Stony Brook’s impressive defensive performance in which the Seawolves allowed just six points against a potent Wildcats offense.
Before the season, Ochi was named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team. The senior is currently averaging 1.75 sacks per game after two games, which is the second-best mark in the Football Championship Subdivision.
