Since starting the season 3-7, the Seawolves have won 20 of their last 24 games and currently sit at 12-2 in the America East conference. Sophomore utilityman Casey Baker also had a slow start to the season, but has improved as the year has progressed and he has been recognized for his efforts.

Baker was awarded the America East Player of the Week award for this past week in recognition of his red-hot hitting in a 4-0 week for the Seawolves in which they took a midweek game against Central Connecticut before sweeping the Albany Great Danes in a weekend series in the state’s capital.

Baker went 7-for-11 in that sweep of the conference rival in a 8-for-16 week for the Ronkonkoma native. Six of his eight hits went for extra bases, as he roped four doubles, a triple and his second home run of the season to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead in game two of the series.

He also collected one RBI in each of the three games in the weekend series, increasing his total to five for the week. He also scored eight runs of his own.

His on base percentage was equal to his batting average at .500 and his slugging percentage escalated to 1.062 on the week.

Baker will look to lead the Seawolves into a crucial home stretch this week, as they play host to the Fairfield Stags on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Hartford Hawks for a three-game set this weekend at Joe Nathan Field.
