Cross-country rests top runners in CCSU Mini-Meet

The Stony Brook men’s and women’s cross-country team visited Central Connecticut State University on Friday to take part in a CCSU Mini-Meet.

This meet is the final one on the Seawolves schedule before they head off to the America East Championships.

The men finished in 14th place out of 19 teams, with 401 points. Leading the way was Alexander Gifford, who finished 65th overall with a time of 15:58.22. This was Gifford’s second meet of the season, his first being a 74th-place finish in a field of 81 at the Wolfie Invitational.

Gifford was not the lone neophyte for Stony Brook. Alongside him was Alex Lopresti, who was in his second meet of the year, Bradley Amazan, who was in his first, Matt Granata, who was in his first and Steve Biondi who took place in his second.

Absent for Stony Brook was some of their best talent, likely given a day off in anticipation of the America East championship.

This holds true for the women as well, who finished in 13th out of 20 teams at the CCSU Mini-Meet with 342 points. Molly Persky secured the best time for Stony Brook, clocking in at 10:55.04, but two of her teammates competed in their first meet of the season at Central Connecticut.

Stony Brook will look to take home the America East Championship this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Orona, Maine.
