Men’s lacrosse Head Coach Jim Nagle named juniors Dylan Curry and Chris Hughes as captains of the 2015 squad.

Curry, a long-stick midfielder, played in all 16 games last season, recording 47 ground balls, causing four turnovers and scoring three goals. Hughes, a midfielder, started every game of his sophomore campaign, contributing with 23 goals and 17 assists. He notched 14 multi-point games, with hat tricks against Hartford, Binghamton and Rutgers.

“We are very excited to have Chris and Dylan lead the 2015 Stony Brook lacrosse season. They are both very committed to the values of the program and are well respected by their teammates,” Jim Nagle said in a statement from Athletics.

Women’s lacrosse coach Joe Spallina made an announcement of his own, hiring 2013 America East Player of the Year Demmianne Cook as an assistant coach, along with a fellow All-American from Syracuse University Alyssa Murray, who will be a volunteer assistant for the 2015 season.

Cook, the two-year Stony Brook starter and Adelphi transfer, led the Seawolves to their first America East title, top-10 ranking and NCAA tournament appearance in her 2013 senior year. Cook also established a new Stony Brook career goal record of 158, posted 90 tallies, which is good for 6th all-time in NCAA history and became Stony Brook’s first Tewaaraton nominee.

Cook spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach, which Spallina sees as an advantage.

“It will be a huge advantage having someone who already understands both our offensive and defensive systems,” Spallina said in a statement.

Hailing from West Babylon, Murray holds an equally impressive résumé. Murray was the 2013 BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and three-time IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team player while representing the Orange.

Both women were on Team STX, a post-collegiate women’s lacrosse team, and hope to carry on Stony Brook’s recent tradition of success.
