Following last week’s 13-7 loss to top-ranked Maryland, Stony Brook bounced back, rallying from a four-goal deficit in the first quarter and defeating Sacred Heart 12-10 on Saturday.

Freshman Challen Rogers led Stony Brook with three goals, with junior Jeff Tundo, sophomore Mike Rooney and freshman Brody Eastwood each scoring two goals.

Sacred Heart dominated the first quarter, scoring the first five goals of the game. However, with only two seconds left in the quarter, junior Cole Millican scored his first goal of the season to get the Stony Brook on the scoreboard.

Stony Brook would build on Millican’s goal, and led by Tundo, Eastwood, Rogers and Rooney, the Seawolves scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter and took a 6-5 lead into halftime.

The two teams would keep it close in the third quarter and the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, with neither team able to grab a multiple-goal lead, but with 6:41 left in the game, Stony Brook’s Eastwood scored an unassisted goal to give the Seawolves an 11-9 lead.

Freshman Matt Schultz scored an insurance goal with 2:41 left in the final quarter.

Sophomore goalkeeper Pat McGushin, making his first start of the season, made seven saves for his first career win.

Sacred Heart saw three players, Mike Mawdsley, Cody Marquis and Matt King all score two goals each.

The Seawolves out-shot Sacred Heart 44-25, and freshman Frank Lucatuorto won 15 of 26 face-offs against Sacred Heart’s Stephen Kontos.

Now with a 5-3 overall record, Stony Brook will take on Bryant at home on March 23rd before playing Vermont in the America East opener the following week.
