Stony Brook baseball tops the University of Rhode Island

The baseball team won its 11th game out of the last 13 and improved to a 25-10 record when it beat the University Rhode Island this Wednesday, 8-2.

Aided by the bat of freshman infielder Cole Peragine, who had a season-high four RBI’s, and fellow freshmen designated hitter Kevin Krause and outfielder Steven Goldstein, who had two hits a piece, the Seawolves had 11 hits.

Although the teams entered the bottom of the 3rd tied 1-1, Stony Brook broke the game open with 2 outs, sending 6 batters to the plate and scoring 5 runs. Peragine was the star of the inning when he sliced a double down the leftfield line to send three runners in and make the score 6-1.

Two more runs in the fourth helped put the game away.

Junior pitcher James Campbell started for Stony Brook, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings before being replaced by fellow junior pitcher  G.C. Yerry. Yerry gave up one run in four innings to pick up his first win of the season.
