Volleyball Falls To Bearcats

After having their eight-game winning streak snapped on Friday, the Seawolves looked to bounce back on Sunday, traveling to Binghamton to face the Bearcats. But, despite a solid 9 kills and 6 digs from senior Harmonie Calinda (Huntington, NY), Stony Brook dropped its second consecutive game, falling in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-22).

‘I think the big loss against Albany carried through into the match against Binghamton,’ said junior Ashley Headen (Alexandria, VA). The Seawolves got off to a slow start defensively, allowing the Bearcats to hit .556 as a team and easily take an early one set lead, 25-12.

The second set saw Stony Brook pick up almost as many errors as kills, as the team notched nine put-aways but also seven errors. The Bearcats took advantage of the mistakes, building a 14-7 lead and eventually taking the set 25-18.

In the third, the Bearcats held on to a slim 13-12 lead until the Seawolves strung together 3 straight points to go ahead 15-13. The teams would be tied at 19-19, until five more Seawolves’ errors would let Binghamton untie it and pull away for the win, 25-22.

The Seawolves look to snap this short losing streak on the road against the UMBC Retrievers on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
