Football brings in FBS defenseman from Minnesota

Chuck Priore, head coach of the Stony Brook football team, let it be known that Leston Simpson, a 6-3, 255-pound defensive lineman from the University of Minnesota, decided to accept  grant-in-aid offer to wear Seawolves red next fall.

“Leston will help us fill some spots on the defensive line,” Priore said, according to the Stony Brook Athletics’ website. “We wanted to bring in some guys who have experience that can play right away, which Leston possesses.”

Simpson began his collegiate athletics at Lackawanna College and subsequently left for Minnesota, where he played in 14 games, 12 in 2010 and two in 2011.

According to Minnesota’s website, Simpson is a business and marketing education major.

Originally from Springfield Gardens, N.Y., Simpson played his high school career at Campus Magnet HIgh School, where he accumulated 57 tackles, two fumble recoveries, six sacks and one interception in his senior year. His performance was honored by his being on second team All-City honors for that year.
