Stony Brook University, in collaboration with SUNY, is moving from Blackboard to D2L Brightspace.
Charlie McMahon, interim senior vice president and enterprise chief information officer, informed students about the transition in an email on Wednesday, April 13 at 10:04 a.m.
“While Brightspace has similar tools, it has a very different look and feel as compared to Blackboard. There are new tools in Brightspace that support your success such as the Class Progress page, showing your course progress ‘at a glance.’ Viewing feedback in the Grades section is easier as well,” McMahon wrote in the email.
The University plans to phase out Blackboard over the course of the 2022-2023 academic year. Starting in summer 2022, faculty will be able to use Brightspace or Blackboard for instruction.
Then, from fall 2022 to spring 2023, most courses will be offered through Brightspace, and starting in summer 2023, all courses will be offered through Brightspace.
Training sessions to teach students how to use Brightspace will be offered through SUNY.
