Stony Brook University will allow two in-person guests per graduate at the Spring 2021 commencement ceremonies.

According to an email sent to degree candidates, those who have applied for graduation and registered for commencement will be able to access their two tickets through the commencement website starting May 10.

“We know how important it is for you to share this monumental day with those who have supported your journey,” the email sent by Director of University Events Christina Cabral reads. “Though we recognize that this news won’t allow you to invite all of those who would like to attend, we are thrilled that you will be able to include two loved ones to celebrate safely with you in person.”

Guests at commencement will have to follow New York State’s current health and safety guidelines for in-person graduation ceremonies. This includes a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination, social distancing and wearing a face covering. More information about the requirements will be put on the commencement website on May 3.

Stony Brook University will hold several separate ceremonies at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium from May 19 to May 21. The schedule based on university school or college can be found on the commencement website. Ceremonies will also be livestreamed on the university’s website.
