Graduate midfielder Ally Kennedy already owned a reputation of being one of the best lacrosse players in the world when she was named US Lacrosse’s Preseason Player of the Year. On Saturday, April 3, she reminded everyone of that with seven goals — tying her career high — in the No. 6-ranked Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team’s 19-8 destruction of the Vermont Catamounts in Burlington.

The victory was the Seawolves’ seventh straight, improving their record to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Stony Brook’s two losses remain against the top two ranked teams in the country.

Along with Kennedy, graduate attacker Taryn Ohmiller scored a hat trick. Freshman midfielder Ellie Masera, senior midfielder Siobhan Rafferty and redshirt-junior attacker Bridget Considine also added two goals a piece as well. Graduate midfielder Kaeli Huff, sophomore attacker Kailyn Hart and senior attacker Rebecca Kinsley each scored one. 

Meanwhile, redshirt-junior goalkeeper Kameron Halsall added nine saves on the defensive effort. Freshman Hayley Hunt saw 13 minutes in the cage and recorded a save herself as well.

“Today was an awesome team win and effort,” Kennedy said in a postgame press release. “I’m proud of how we fought on the draw circle and played together on offense. Having eight different goalscorers is a tribute to our depth offensively. We love coming home with a win.”

Although the Catamounts scored the first goal of the game less than a minute in, the Seawolves quickly grabbed the lead with scores from Masera and Kennedy, never looking back from that point on. Stony Brook led 12-4 at halftime and triggered the running clock in the second half. 

The Seawolves have won 49 consecutive games against America East schools. This season, they have beaten their five conference opponents by an average of nearly 12 goals per game. Stony Brook will return to the field on April 11 against the New Hampshire Wildcats up in Durham, looking to make it 50 in a row.
