A persistent forecheck led the way for a pair of season-opening Stony Brook victories at The Rinx in Hauppauge over the weekend, where the ice hockey team topped Rhode Island.
The season came to a close on Monday night for the Stony Brook Hockey team, as Iowa State defeated the Seawolves, 2-1, in the semifinals of the ACHA National Tournament.
Stony Brook will compete as the top seed in the ESCHL playoffs next weekend at Lehigh Valley College, a tournament the team has won in back-to-back seasons.
For the packed rink in attendance, the players’ helmet ribbons and bright orange laces illuminated an even bigger battle: former captain Sam Brewster’s battle with leukemia.
