Sanger Hall, a residential hall in Tabler Community, will receive a new name after nearly two years of public pressure. Sanger Hall is named after Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, an activist for women’s rights and birth control.
Stony Brook University President Maurie McInnis confirmed the school’s commitment to renaming Sanger Hall in an Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate meeting on Nov. 11.
#OPINION: Understanding the legacy of Margaret Sanger, whom the building was named after, would demonstrate how having a building named in her honor would undermine the University’s mission of establishing an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion.
