Several institutions affiliated with Stony Brook University have become targeted by a cyberattack, putting the private data of students, faculty and staff at risk.

Every year, tens of millions of dollars are lost due to technical support scams, Dr. Nick Nikiforakis, an assistant professor in the department of computer science, said during his lecture on computer scamming.
