Turning Point USA has been officially recognized as an organization on campus, despite the Stony Brook Progressive Coalition’s online petition to bar the chapter from being recognized by the University.

Manjot Singh has been elected as the next Undergraduate Student Government (USG) president. The results of the election were announced on USG’s Instagram a few hours after polls closed on SBEngaged on April 4.

After three years of renovations and about $63.4 million spent, the new Union opened on campus this fall semester. The Union features three levels of newly designated areas including an office for the Center of Civic Justice, club space and an e-sports facility.

Founded this year, a new club at Stony Brook University called Artists in Medicine wants to use students’ artistic abilities to construct creative projects. Their goal is to combine the arts and sciences in a simplified and informative way. 

Nearly 2,000 ballots were cast in the elections this year — a 10% increase in student body votes from last year. Spencer beat the opposing party’s candidate, senior political science and economics major Justin Ullman, by 426 votes, and another candidate, senior psychology major Vincent Ferrara, by 760 votes.

Dive Chat, a new student start up and group chat messaging app for students, was launched on Aug. 1 at Stony Brook University.

#OPINION It is up to us, the student body, to choose who we want to represent us. We should take advantage of this opportunity, as those in office will be the ones who push for more initiatives to help the student body.

Clubs and organizations thrive on interaction, community and events, all of which are a vital part of campus life. However, they are now forced to adapt to a remote experience and limited funds in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. 

I was the public relations officer for Dumbledore’s Army. However, the eBoard made a decision on July 10 and abused their power by supporting a political stance using the club’s name without the consent of club members.

A campus-wide email announcing the referendum and elections included a link to a Google Drive folder with an annotated draft with the proposed changes, a final draft of the new constitution and a document describing major changes, in addition to the current constitution.
