Ethnic student organizations are widely considered some of the most important student clubs. They provide environments that allow for connections between students who share a cultural identity.

“For a lot of international students or students who have a history from other countries around the world, they're living here and they don't get to see their family as often. Now they get to bring that part of their culture and show it off as well."

For Kelsea Johnson, the path to success has been all about timing. In 2014, the Delaware native auditioned for the NBC singing competition, “The Voice,” at an open call audition attended by thousands.

Michele H. Bogart, who teaches social history of public art, urban design and commercial culture, said these statues are a form of art.

Stony Brook students, faculty, and administrators linked arms outside both the SAC and the Administration building in recognition of the University of Missouri protests.

The demonstration started at the Student Activities Center and students made their way toward the Administration Building, chanting “Black Lives Matter.”
