In the men's lacrosse non-conference season finale on Wednesday, the Stony Brook Seawolves turned in their best offensive performance of the season with three different hat tricks against the St. John’s Red Storm.
The Seawolves (2-3) wrapped up their three-game homestand on Saturday against the Brown Bears. Crucial scoring runs by Brown in the first and fourth quarters helped give Stony Brook a 17-12 loss.
Hat tricks by attackmen Jonathan Huber and Blake Behlen helped the Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team snag its second win of the season and get back to .500.
Coming off an opening-day loss, the Seawolves (0-2) traveled to Pennsylvania to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. Though Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead, its defense was not strong enough to hold back Penn State’s ferocious attack.
Despite a career day from goaltender Jamison MacLachlan, a poor second quarter prevented the Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team from upsetting one of the best teams in the nation.

Take Stony Brook men’s lacrosse midfielder Matt Anderson, who has done exactly that.
He had yet to start a collegiate game in his short career. Nevertheless, when tasked with the unexpected duty in a clash an hour south of his hometown, freshman goalkeeper Jamison MacLachlan stepped up when his team needed him the most.
“We were unselfish today,” head coach Anthony Gilardi said. “If you look at the box score a lot of guys got involved. Just like our last game against Dartmouth, the more guys we have on the scoresheet the better offense we are playing.”
The Seawolves entered the contest in Hanover, New Hampshire having lost four of their last five games after a 4-0 start. A trio of players — attackman Kevin Mack and midfielders Matt Anderson and Mike McCannell — led the way with three goals each.
The Seawolves staged walk-off comebacks in the final two games of the series against the UMass Lowell River Hawks to sweep the three-game set in dramatic fashion.
Devon McLane minimized the Bears' first half struggles with three goals in just three minutes of play. He secured a hat trick in the third quarter alone, giving Brown a comfortable three-point lead to topple the Seawolves by a final score of 10-7.
