Last weekend, the Seawolves (2-3) opened up their 2023 season down in Florida at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Paradise Classic. The tournament was five games long, with one game on Friday, followed by doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.

Last season was an unorthodox one for the Stony Brook softball team. Though they suffered several key departures heading into the 2022 season, the Seawolves finished with their highest win total in a decade.
The Stony Brook softball team headed into its season opener unsure who would replace Melissa Rahrich as the program’s resident power hitter. By the time catcher Corinne Badger hit her sixth home run of the weekend, they had their answer.
“We have unfinished business,” first baseman Lindsey Osmer said to The Statesman. “I’ve finished second in the America East twice now and that’s not good enough for me.”
The SBU softball team advanced to the title game of the 2021 America East Softball Championship, falling short of a ring to a familiar foe. The third-seeded Seawolves lost two games against No. 1 seed UMBC, who took home its second consecutive title.
After winning a three-game series against the Stony Brook softball team on May 7 and 8, the UMBC Retrievers are the America East regular season champions.
This Saturday and Sunday, their struggles finally caught up to them when they were swept by the Albany Great Danes in a three-game road series; the Seawolves were outscored 11-3 despite outhitting Albany 21-17.
Coming in unbeaten in conference play, the Stony Brook softball team looked to continue its streak this past weekend as the Seawolves traveled north to Orono, Maine to take on the Maine Black Bears in a three-game series.
