The Statesman is hosting a robust evening of events and programming interspersed with live news updates as the country waits to hear the (likely) winner of the 2020 presidential election. This event will be livestreamed from our Facebook, YouTube and Twitter accounts starting at 8 p.m. We’re only going till midnight, since mail-in ballots will be counted for days after the election, but we’ve packed in four hours of interesting and comprehensive programs on election-related issues.
Programs and packages include:
- How SBU students voted during a pandemic
- Panel with African Student Union President Zamansky Twum, House of Shade President Carine Green and Black Student Union e-board members Alexis Sakil and Annabelle Abelard
- An interview with political science professor Helmut Norpoth, who accurately predicted the results of the 2016 presidential election
- An interview with political science professors Yanna Krupnikov and John Barry Ryan, who authored the New York Times article “The Real Divide in American Is Between Political Junkies and Everyone Else”
- How the Center for Civic Justice increased voter engagement on campus
- An interview with Loeb Visiting Professor Sree Sreenivasan on how social media has impacted the election
- A roundtable with Stony Brook students on the election
- An interview with School of Journalism professor James Klurfeld on the relationship between the press and the presidency
