The Seawolves trounced the defending regular-season champion Elon Phoenix on Saturday to wrap up their three-game homestand. Four different scorers combined to lead Stony Brook to a 4-0 win at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
Coming off a disastrous 2022 season, the Stony Brook men’s soccer team is looking for some star power to help it bounce back. Luckily for the program, it appears to have found a big-time player in defender Jon Jelercic.
Following a rough introduction to a new conference and the exit of key players during the offseason, the Stony Brook men’s soccer team desperately needed a roster revamp for 2023.
Coming into this past season, Stony Brook had significant holes to fill. Losses in leadership, talent and production from the 2021 team led to low expectations from the outside world. Being newcomers in a stronger conference did not help matters, either.
With the 1-0 loss down in North Carolina, the team secured a winless record on the road against conference opponents in 2022. Stony Brook was also officially eliminated from the postseason, becoming the first team in the conference to reach that low.
The Stony Brook men’s soccer team could not capitalize on any of its nine shots, as the team was shutout for the sixth time in the last eight matches. The Seawolves took on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for a mid-week, non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
