Halloween isn’t your typical holiday. You don’t get money or gifts, no one makes a turkey, no one hides eggs around the lawn, and no one gets kissed by dreaded Aunt Gertrude. Instead, you get to dress up and go trick or treating; that is, if you are five, of course.
During this spook-fest, there are better things to do than parade around your neighborhood and beg for candy. As a college student, Halloween is often spent getting really into it: picking out a great costume and going out, or just sitting home and reading for your next midterm. There are no intermediates. However, there are cases of people who wish to celebrate, and don’t know where to go.
This Halloween, look no further! On and off campus events are a-plenty, and there is enough candy to go around! Make sure you are dressed in your Halloween best if you plan to attend the Sanger Halloween Party in the Student Activities Center on Tuesday, Oct. 31. This event requires a costume and a desire to celebrate this hedonistic holiday. The event begins at 7:00 PM, and is hosted by Sanger LEG in SAC Ballroom B.
If you’re looking for something a little less crazy, and a little more traditional, look no further than our very own Stony Brook Village. Each year, the old village is decorated with scarecrows that are featured in a Scarecrow Contest. The little village is lit up with Halloween jack-o’-lanterns and displays lights that illuminate the scarecrows. Children in costume are everywhere, just enjoying a safe space. It is a perfect place to take a walk with someone you love on a night of total mayhem.
If you have plenty to do for your evening activities, but nothing to fill up those awful gaps during the day, you might want to contemplate attending the Frank J. Melville Library’s Halloween Party. It will take place on Halloween from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Library’s Galleria. It is hosted by the Library Club, and will include prizes for the best pre-carved pumpkin and the most original, funniest, and scariest costumes. On-campus clubs and organizations, such as the Pre-Med Society and the Society of Professional Journalists will be hosting tables, dressed up in costumes!
Find yourself getting the munchies later at night? Attend Roth Quad’s Halloween event, hosted by Roth Dining. The event will take place in the dining hall. Find yourself low on points? Enjoy free food and other giveaways! The event will take place from 6:00 PM through 10:00 PM in Roth Quad Dining Hall.
If you still have nothing to do, you might as well go trick-or-treating. Who knows, you may have a great time, and who doesn’t love free candy?
Happy Halloween, and remember to stay safe!
