Students often find themselves bored with the food options available on campus, always hunting for the best deals around, at the best prices. It is hard to find good food at good value, with the exception of ‘name brand’ fast food located in the many quads around campus, namely, Burger King and Taco Bell.
Students often find themselves looking for options that offer a hearty meal, a nice atmosphere and good prices. Cosmo’s Caf’eacute;, across from the Stony Brook Railroad Station, offers large portions at reasonable prices. Not only is it very close to campus, but they offer a delivery service that brings the food right to your dorm.
Cosmo’s casual feel allows students to feel like students while enjoying food made from real food products. Specializing in Italian and Greek cuisines, Cosmos’ offers a wide variety of selections starting from soups, salads, and entr’eacute;es.
Cosmo’s often has specials that run daily, especially with combination platters that offer a salad or soup, entr’eacute;e and a beverage. These combos range from $6.99 to $9.99. This is fairly reasonable for the average college student; considering the platter sizes and the quality of the food.
The atmosphere of Cosmo’s is very much reminiscent of the fictional Mystic Pizza; everyone seems to know each other and interact in a friendly manner. Whether you choose to dine-in, and are waited on, or order at the register, or even if you are getting delivery, the staff is always friendly and offers their personal suggestions, which help in choosing from their wide variety.
The relaxed mood of Cosmo’s Caf’eacute;, with their Long Island radio stations and chalky ‘specials’ board allows a student to’ unwind after a long day. The break from the regular on-campus variety of food is definitely welcomed, in the form of their’ hot, home-style meals.
The comfortable atmosphere, coupled with the excellent staff and great food at better prices, allows for a wonderful lunch or dinner experience. Cosmos’ is not only frequented by Stony Brook students, but by locals as well. It is a small caf’eacute; that is open late and caters to people from the area, and also provides a convenient meal for people fresh off of the train.
Overall, Cosmo’s has home-style Greek or Italian food at reasonable prices.’ Out of a possible five stars, I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars, since it does not provide a very elegant sit-in environment.
