The women’s soccer team saw their season came to an end as they dropped a heartbreaker in over time against Vermont Catamounts at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 8-7-2 overall, 3-4-1 in conference plays while the Catamounts improve to 5-9-3 and 3-3-2 respectively. The Seawolves earned 10 points in conference games this season, only 1 point short to earn a place in the play offs.
Just 32 seconds in the overtime, Vermont’s forward Carson Laderoute volleyed a bouncing ball past the reach of Marisa Viola to lift the Catamounts past the Seawolves.
The Seawolves dominated throughout the game, earned a 20-13 shot advantage against Catamounts in the game, 3-13 in second half. They also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Though the Seawolves had more than a number of chances, they just couldn’t beat the Catamount goalkeeper Eliza Bradley and defenders in the penalty area. With the game of the season on the line, Bradley denied 10 shot on goal. Aria Tanzi almost capitalized a her shot, but only saw her shot toward an open net was cleared off the goal line by one of the Catamounts defenders. The Seawolves’ offense also fall victim to the Catamounts offside trap as they were called nine times during the game.
Despite the loss on this Sunday afternoon, the Seawolves played well throughout the season. The players played as a team and take the tough loss gracefully. A young team as they were now, they showed good potential as they had many brilliant performances this semester. We appreciate their effort and wish them the best next season. With the experience they had gained, the best for the women’s soccer team has yet to come.
