Trine Allenberg scored on a free kick in the 27th minute to give the Stony Brook Seawolves a crucial and well-deserved 1-0 victory over the Albany Great Danes in an away game. With the win, the Seawolves improved to 8-6-2 overall, 3-3-1 in America East, while the Great Danes fall to 5-11-1 and 2-5-0 respectively.
Allenberg’s first goal of the season put the Seawolves on the score board for good. The sophomore middle fielder curved a free kick past the wall of Albany defenders into the upper right corner.
Marisa Viola won her sixth clean sheet of the season. A big presence in the penalty area as usual, she made four saves in the match.
The Seawolves will be back home to host Vermont in their final match of the regular season. The Seawolves look to win a seat in the playoffs on Sunday afternoon. The game starts at 12:00 p.m. at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
