The intersection of Shirley Kenny Drive and Nicolls Road is one Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley does not encourage the campus community to cross in; he instead recommends using the tunnel that goes under Nicolls Road and connects the Life Sciences Buildings to the Stony Brook University Hospital. Because students, faculty and staff do cross at the intersection, Stanley said, he worked with Suffolk County officials to get improved crossing signals installed. (Rebecca Anzel)
